The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, officially launched the Digital Arms License Portal on August 14, 2025, as part of the state’s flagship digital governance platform, Sewa Setu. This landmark initiative enables indigenous citizens residing in vulnerable and remote regions of Assam to apply for arms licenses through a fully online process, marking a significant step towards transparent and citizen-centric governance.
The portal, accessible at [sewasetu.assam.gov.in](https://sewasetu.assam.gov.in), has been designed to ensure a streamlined application workflow integrated with a robust verification mechanism, thereby guaranteeing that only eligible applicants are issued licenses. This reflects Assam’s commitment to leveraging ICT for strengthening governance and ensuring equitable access to essential services.
Role of Sewa Setu in Digital Transformation :
Sewa Setu, developed and maintained by NIC Assam, has emerged as the state’s comprehensive citizen digital service delivery platform. It provides a secure and user-friendly interface that integrates multiple government departments under a unified framework. With 55 departments onboarded, 815 services made available, and over 1.87 crore applications received (1.68 crore disposed), the platform has become a cornerstone of digital public service delivery in the state.
The integration of the arms license service into Sewa Setu further demonstrates the platform’s scalability and adaptability in hosting specialized, high-sensitivity services. By ensuring seamless access, NIC Assam has shown how technology can effectively bridge geographical and administrative gaps, making governance accessible even in the most remote corners of the state.
NIC Assam’s Technical Contribution :
NIC Assam’s technical expertise has been instrumental in the successful development of this service. The system emphasizes security, efficiency, and transparency, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements while maintaining a citizen-friendly approach. The initiative stands as a model of digital governance, highlighting how a robust ICT framework can enable governments to deliver services efficiently while safeguarding public trust.
