NIC’s eOffice Platform is a digital workplace solution comprising a suite of products that paves the way for an efficient and open government by streamlining workflow for both inter and intra government processes and making them paperless. The launch of eOffice for Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), one of the largest implementations of eOffice, covering over 50,000 users in CBIC field offices across the country was held on 15th June 2020.
Shri M. Ajit Kumar, Chairman of CBIC launched the eOffice through NIC Video Conferencing in the presence of Dr. Neeta Verma, Director General, NIC along with other senior officers from CBIC and NIC. A large number of officials across the 580 filed offices of CBEC across India witnessed the launch through video conferencing.
The launch of eOffice marks a fundamental change in internal office procedures for CBIC which has been so far based on manual handling of files and paper movement. eOffice would complement many other IT-led reforms by CBIC which are directly aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business for the trade and industry. The use of eOffice by the CBIC and Customs officers in their day to day work would lead to speedier decision making, transparency, accountability, and a positive impact on the environment by cutting down the use of paper and printing.
Implementation of eOffice has become more relevant in the challenging situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic. eOffice helps avoid contact with physical files thereby preventing possible transmission of any virus. It also provides enhanced security as no file or document can be altered, destroyed, or backdated. Tracking of a file movement is also very easy using the eOffice interface. The use of eOffice is expected to enhance the productivity and efficiency of CBIC.
