E-Governance Boost: Typing and Stenography Examinations Now Fully Online

SATYESH KUMAR SHARMA, Chhattisgarh

Candidates appearing for the Stenography Examination on the Computer Typing Skill Platform (CTSP)

The Department of School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh, has established the Shorthand and Typing Computer Skills Examination Council under the Directorate of Public Instruction to assess the computer proficiency required for various Class III government posts. The Council conducts Hindi and English Computer Typing Skill Tests and Stenography Examinations (at the speeds of 5000, 8000, and 10000 key depressions per hour). These tests are essential for posts such as Data Entry Operator, Programmer, Assistant Programmer, Assistant Grade-3, Stenographer, and Stenographer Typist in government, semi-government, and autonomous offices.

To streamline this process and enhance transparency, NIC Chhattisgarh has developed a fully online web application that facilitates candidate registration, fee payment (integrated with e-Challan service), slot allocation, and test delivery. Examinations are conducted across various government and private centers in the state, exclusively on Saturdays and Sundays, in five time slots.

e-Governance Impact:

The web platform, known as CTSP (Computer Typing Skill Platform) and conceptualized as Skill Test as a Service, will be an ongoing initiative of the department, ensuring efficiency and scalability for all future examinations.

Key Features:

1- Online Candidate Registration with integrated payment gateway.

2- Automatic Slot and Center Allocation for registered candidates.

3- System-based Login for attendance marking during scheduled exam slots.

4- Random Passage Generation for each exam slot to maintain integrity.

5- Online Typing Test Interface with real-time monitoring.

6- Instant Access to Provisional Results through the candidate login portal.

Examination Statistics:

Session    Total Applications Received    Examination Fee Collected (in Rs. Lakh)
2024–25    37,676    93.80
2025–26    29,639    72.95

This initiative represents a significant leap in the use of digital platforms for skill assessment and aligns with the broader e-Governance goals of the state government.
