NIC Punjab and Haryana jointly organized a regional workshop on National Permits Portal at CDAC Mohali. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India sponsored the workshop. Officers from Transport Departments of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, J& K, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand participated in the workshop.
Secretary Transport, Govt. of Punjab Dr. Arvinder Singh, IAS inaugurated the workshop. During his inaugural address he lauded the efforts made by Ministry of Road Transport and NIC in developing a uniform system for National Permits. Sh. Sameer Mathur, IAS, Principal Secretary Transport was the guest of honour. Sh. Mathur said that this is another major initiative by MoRTH and NIC in the transport sector after introduction of State Registers National Registers for Driving Licences and Registration Certificates. Sh. Navneet Kukreja, Senior Technical Director and State Informatics Officer, NIC Punjab welcomed the delegates and exuded confidence that the new online portal will be introduced soon after incorporating suggestions received during the regional workshop. Sh. Ghanshyam Bansal, Senior Technical Director and SIO NIC Haryana presented vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for sponsoring the workshop.
The main objective of workshop was to discuss various aspects of the system being developed for online issuance of National Permits so that a uniform system can be adopted throughout India. Under the newly introduced regime for National Permits a transporter is authorized to run his vehicle throughout India on payment of Rupees 15000/- (Fifteen Thousand). This is a boon for transporters as earlier they were shelling out Rs. 3000/- per state and authorization was also restricted to only three states. Once Permits Portal is released the transporters will be able to apply for National Permit on click of a mouse. Due to this long queues and repeated rounds of RTA offices will be a thing of the past.
Sh. Gautam Ghosh, Senior Technical Director and Sh. Sanjay Mendiratta Principal Systems Analyst from NIC HQ New Delhi demonstrated the portal that has been designed by NIC to manage National Permits.
