Faridabad was founded in 1607 A.D. by Shaikh Farid, the treasurer of Jahangir, with the objective of protecting the highway which passed through the town. It came on the map of Haryana on 15th August, 1979 as the 12th district of the state. Situated about 25 Kms. from Delhi, it is a part of National Capital Region (NCR) and is famou for Surajkund International Handicraft Mela held from 1st February to 15th February every year.
